Symposium on Sustainable
Systems - 4S

Aim
Aim of the symposium is to develop innovative ideas and
solutions for the advancement of a truly sustainable
material system and create new, exciting,
interdisciplinary insights into the steps needed to move
towards sustainable use of resources. Within this scope
behavioral, cultural, economical, environmental, ethical,
legal, managerial, regulatory, social, and technical issues
are studied and discussed.
Researchers working on their PhD thesis or post-doctoral
activities are encouraged to apply.

What
is provided for the participants
The successful
applicants are granted a scholarship which covers
participation fee, full symposium program, accommodation,
lunch and dinner, and symposium materials. Travelling costs to- and from Helsinki are not included into
scholarship, but to be funded by each participant themselves.

Submission Procedure
All the applicants
are expected to submit an
abstract (max. 1 A4), academic CV and recommendations from applicants
scientific supervisor at via the submission page
Registration Procedure
Papers of either a theoretical or an
applied nature can be submitted via e-mail. Details can be
found here.
Deadline for full article submission and registration is
April 30 2010.
All contributions will be made
available to all participants. Contributions should clearly
address the related
research questions
and should not have been previously
presented at international conferences or published in
international journals. Final acceptance of any contribution
requires registration of the author to the sympoisum
The language of the symposium is English.
Deliverables
The
participants will be assigned into specific workshops
groups. Workshop groups will be formed, teamleaders will be
chosen and subjects determined and sent to
participants during May 2009. This way groups can be
in contact before the symposium.
We expect students to discuss and develop innovative ideas
and solutions for the advancement of a truly sustainable
material system. The participants are required to present
their papers in workgroups during the
symposium. Finally, the working groups present their work
orally and later as reports.
The papers accepted by the international peer reviewing will be published as Symposium proceeding. Depending on the final outcome it will be a book published by an international publisher or as a special issue in a scientific journal.
